The main function of lymphatic drainage is to accelerate the process of removing the accumulated fluids between cells and metabolic waste, directing them to capillary vessels and, through light pressure and long, gentle strokes, directing them to be eliminated. This technique also stimulates tissue regeneration, improves the immune system, is relaxing and tranquilizing, combats cellulite and localized fat and also improves the body’s anti-inflammatory action. Its also great for the body after certain types of operations. Because this type of massage is manually moving toxins in the body, it’s not uncommon to feel lethargic or, in some cases, unwell after a treatment. Therefore we encourage giving your body time to ease back into activity. It’s really important to drink at least two litres of water in the 12 hours prior to your massage and two litres of water in the 12 hours following your massage, in order to assist the lymphatic system on flushing out the toxins your therapist has moved. Note that this technique is not indicated for people with acute infections, heart failure, thrombosis, hypertension, cancer, bronchial asthma and asthmatic bronchitis.
